Medicare Replacement Cards

Medicare is a very helpful medical plan for adults over the age of 65. This government-funded plan helps senior citizens, the disabled, and those with end stage renal diseases to pay for their hospital or medical bills. Depending on the plan that you enroll in, it can also help pay for even more of your medical expenses.

Medicare beneficiaries have cards that they use to verify their identity and their Medicare enrollment. Generally, this card is necessary for a person to be able to access the different benefits of their Medicare plan.

If you lose your Medicare card, what do you do? You will need to get a replacement card if you want to be able to use the Medicare's medical services. You might also need to get a 'replacement' card if you enrolled for Medicare and never got yours.

You will need some information before you can get your Medicare card replacement, including your last payment amount, or the year and the month of the last payment you have made if you received any of the benefits in the last year. You will, of course, also need your name, birth date, social security number, and telephone number. For identity purposes, you may also need your place of birth and your mother's maiden name.

There are a variety of ways for you to get your new card. One of your options is to call the Social Security Administration and ordering there. You can also go directly to their office. If your Medicare card was red, white, or blue, you can order a replacement online at the SSA website. If your state was the one that issued your card, you will need to go the Medicaid office in your area.

The SSA's website is very secure, and you can apply for a replacement card by filling in their online form. This form is electronically sent to the Social Security Administration, where your personal information is later on encrypted for your privacy. The SSA forwards the requests to the Health Care Financing Administration where it is processed. The agency then sends out the new cards. Usually, the cards arrive at your doorstep 30 days after the request.
